Play Structures

One of the newest innovations for the playground, either publicly or at home is the "play structure". These fun filled edifices provide a multitude of activities for your children while keeping them together in a centralized location. From their modest beginnings in the 1960's with the combining of traditional playground equipment built into a centralized wooden platform, modern play structures come with extreme customizing ability and can be modified in many ways. A wooden play structure can be created to look like a Wild West fort or a pirate ship. A preschool play structure may feature popular cartoon motifs like a Rainbow Bright play structure to appeal to the under 5 kids. Plastic play structures often come pre-made in a variety of thematic styles. There are some of the larger play structures that will incorporate a playhouse within the overall body of the structure so play can continue even if the weather turns wet.

Commercial play structures have many useful features. Many of them come in modular form so you can customize just what play elements you want and have extensions that can be included later as your children get bigger. There are several building materials available. You can construct a wooden play structure or work with one of the modular plastic structures. Some have the addition of modular section walls that emulate stone or brick. The roofing can be either solid or have weatherproof canvas coverings. Many of the modern play structures are designed so those metal support elements are completely enclosed so as to lessen the danger of injury from unwary contact with a connector bolt. Being constructed in many bright colors the outdoor play structure can add a happy element to your overall backyard appearance.

Beginning with preschool play structures that remain close to the ground and offer short slides and lots of crawling spaces, the outdoor play structures can be modified in time to include high climbing towers and more advanced activities. If your yard doesn't have the space needed for an outdoor play structure, there are companies that offer modified designs of play structures for indoor use. They come in small sizes to fit a room as well as extended versions that can fill up a home basement. Many of the manufacturers of play structures offer both standard and customizable plans online to help design your perfect structure to instill good exercise and pleasant memories in your child.

Depending on your budget, the play structures you find online can run from as little as a few hundred dollars to complex models that will cost several thousand. Some manufacturers offer modular development that will spread the cost out over years as you add newer elements for growing children.
